The Challenge
Freedom had a need to consolidate the number of running servers as well as implementation of a CRM solution. The chosen product was Microsoft’s Navision, which needed a large setup in terms of infrastructure, power, cooling and rack space.SilverBug looked to save running costs for Freedom by allocating the budget to not only fulfill existing requirements but also to consolidate existing servers, save running costs and fulfill some of Freedoms longer term aims such as providing the platform for Disaster Recovery.
The Strategy
SilverBug adopted the idea of a single application which would turn around Freedom's help desk. Virtualization would be Freedom Communications next leap, providing server consolidation, easy upgrade paths, a platform for true disaster recovery and business continuity as well as instant and on-demand server deployment. The Solution and Results
VMware Infrastructure 3 – SilverBug are accredited VMware Authorized Consultants (VAC) and our engineers are VMware Certified Professionals (VCP). Our VMware projects ensure that the best technical expertise goes into managing and deploying your environment into a virtual world.Freedom Communications deployed VMware over multiple hosts using an iSCSI SAN. This ensured that their existing networking infrastructure would be used to capacity. Servers were migrated to the platform without any user downtime, freeing up rack space and running costs. Freedom can now deploy servers from a template rather than waiting for server delivery.
Freedom Communications can easily upgrade virtual servers or physical hosts. If a physical host fails, VMware will provide redundancy and move servers to the operating hosts with minimal downtime, offering high availability. The solution is dynamic, robust and resilient, providing a step to true Business Continuity.
