Case Study: Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club

The Client

WolvesWolverhampton Wanderers Football Club is a professional football club based in the West Midlands, usually referred to as Wolves. They have a renowned long history, distinctive logo and their home ground, the Molineux Stadium. They have established themselves after WWII under management of Stan Cullis.

Today Wolves are now home to fresh takeover, new players and a plethora of strong organizational units within the company to include approximately 150 users and a network environment typical of a football club at the forefront of technology.

The Challenge

Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club was using a thin-client Application Service Provider. The sessions to the hosted environment were unmanaged, extremely out of date, slow and not in keeping with the business needs.

Wolverhampton had internal 2nd line resource that kept the club running but it was evident that a dramatic change of technology was required to meet end-user demand along with a fresh skill-set.

The challenge was to pool resources and third parties together to migrate an existing Active Directory hosted by another supplier.

The Strategy

In consultation with Wolves, SilverBug had to fully understand the club and its strategy, the needs and requirements of every individual user. All applications, integration and network had to be scrupulously understood.

Excellent Project Management was critical in migration and delivering a solution to the club. Post implementation, Wolves discussed ongoing support and strategy which has led to utilization of the managed service solution.

The Results

Migration from an application server provider to an in house infrastructure was seamless and was done in one migration weekend. A server solution was successfully established and tested prior to migration with all workstations imaged for simple deployment.

Wolves now have a fast network infrastructure providing remote tele-working facilities with the benefit of quick return on investment, resilience and a stable platform to do business on.

The Solutions

Managed Services/Migration –SilverBug's highly accredited engineers have set up Wolves so that the network and all users (including the new training ground) can be managed remotely (including Wolves users who are remote and on the road).

SilverBug's managed service includes monitoring the services and network nodes at Wolves to proactively fix issues, sometimes without the end user ever knowing there was an issue. All machines are automatically patched and updated (through to drivers at BIOS level) to ensure maximum security. Wolves have also been able to capitalise on SilverBug's Strategic Management as part of their Managed Services which allows one-on-one development with the assigned account manager.
